Arctic Fine Art Photography Prints
Four images shot on expedition through the high northern latitudes — three from the fjords of East Greenland, one from the archipelago of Svalbard. Scoresby Sund is one of the most remote fjord systems on Earth, rarely reached by small vessels and rarer still in good light. Svalbard sits at 78°N, the northernmost inhabited archipelago, and one of the few places where a polar bear can still be seen in its home terrain. The Arctic body of work is the spine of this collection, and all four images have been featured in Canadian Photography (CAPA) Magazine.
King of Ice
One of the most remote fjord systems on earth, where polar bears are hunted by local communities and are not easily seen. On our first zodiac outing from the expedition vessel, in the fading evening light, this bear rolled lazily atop its perch - completely unbothered and sovereign. We never saw another one for the rest of our expedition.
Arctic Canvas
Svalbard is the northernmost inhabited archipelago on earth. While tracking a swimming walrus from our zodiac, a flash of movement caught my eye - spotting a white bear against a white landscape is harder than it seems. We edged closer and I was able to compose this apex predator against the pure white canvas of the Arctic.
Fire and Ice
At sunset, the last light caught the red sandstone cliffs and threw a deep amber glow across the water. The wake of our expedition vessel carved a path of rippled gold leading to that arched iceberg in the distance.
The Ice Mirror
East coast of Greenland is home to some of the largest icebergs outside Antarctica. On our expedition through this remote fjord system, we encountered several of extraordinary scale. What makes this image for me is the reflection on thin sheets of floating ice. Black and white was a deliberate choice: stripping the colour away forces the eye to reckon with the scale.
Each print is produced in Toronto on Fine Art Photo Rag, Acrylic Face-Mount, or ChromaLuxe HD Metal. Fine Art Editions of 30; King of Ice is the Signature Edition of 15.
